In a forest of the Val Brembana, the body of a young woman is discovered – seemingly the victim of a dark and ancient ritual. Investigating the case is Fernando Pavone, the new Chief Inspector who appeared out of nowhere, joined by his young assistant Stefano Milesi and the former anthropology professor Marzio Bottazzi, an expert in occult symbolism.

But this is not the only investigation underway.

As an introverted and rational man, yet haunted by his past, Pavone finds himself facing not only a mysterious murder but also a closed-off and suspicious community. The autopsy reveals that the woman was strangled and drowned almost simultaneously, but what interests the captain most is the way the body was arranged – as if it were part of a sacrificial rite. While Stefano questions what Pavone is not saying, new clues begin to link the dead woman to the old professor Bottazzi: eccentric and seemingly beyond suspicion, he appears to know more than anyone else – even about the captain’s own secrets.

In a crescendo of tension and ambiguity, where the line between reality and suggestion grows increasingly thin, each character hides a piece of the truth. In this heart-pounding dark thriller, every shadow hides a secret, and no one is safe from the grip of the past.
